So I spent the weekend checking out a new con “in the area”.  The Pandora Society’s Pandoracon in Cincinnati.  This is their second year running.  I didn’t have any real reason to go (other than to watch the CFTP guys), but they promised a Doctor Who room, so I couldn’t possibly say no to that…

Now, I’m not going to say that a costume is required to enjoy this con; they are accepting of all peoples, but you know what?  A costume is required to really enjoy this con.  Steampunk, Star Trek and Doctor Who were popular themes.  I’ve been meaning to work on a few SP outfits so as to eschew my usual polo-shirt based conwear.  I guess now I have an excuse.

So, why the costume requirement?  Well, this con is really more about the people attending, socializing, gaming, etc than it is about panels.  There are panels, but aside from a few writing ones, nothing really grabbed me, but the people and the play… well worth the trip.  I actually ended up in a mega-D&D session at one point and had a blast.

They do this weekend long game with the four houses; diamonds, hearts, spades and clubs, vs the army of the goblin king.  They take it very seriously.  I ended up joining the house of hearts because they tried the hardest (perhaps too hard), but House Diamonds was the only group with a well-prepared spiel… just sayin’ guys… they kinda set the bar there, but I’m and underdog kinda guy… and am very protective of my internal organs…
