#304 – Chapter Seven: The Plot Advances… Really, Really Slowly…
January 31st, 2010 | by DaveIt’s actually unfair of me to characterize the action in an episode of Naruto Shippuden like this… to be really accurate, I’d have to insert at least six more panels and fill them with inane commercials for non-Naruto-related and slightly age-inappropriate toys! I’d like to say that’s an exaggeration, but I’ve been watching the show with Brittany, and I swear there’s only about twelve minutes of cartoon per half-hour episode… and what story they do show is really only about two minutes of action spread way, way out. I mean, I’ve seen episodes where the entire thing was just the team skipping through trees! This isn’t the Lord of the Rings, you know… and speaking of the skipping, did they cut the animator’s salaries or something… when did the Ninja’s learn to fly?!? Don’t they occasionally have to actually jump or something?!? I don’t seem to recall anyone shouting Superman-flying jutsu or anything else, so why are they flying?!?…
I’m just saying…
So today is officially the last clue in the year-long Crumpler Laptop Bag giveaway contest! As far as a clue, well she’s at it again, so you should probably take the time to see who Colbey is… and then come to Penguicon this year to meet her creator! Remember, you can always go back through the archives and find the past codes, but you have to be quick as I am ending the contest at 00:01am on February 3rd!
And thus in our sixth chapter of Narutard Theater, I appeal to the legions of frothing fan girls out there to come to their senses. I know you all want to believe that Sasuke is dreamy and noble, but he is clearly a fellow that has decided the best solution to any problem is to stick a kunai in its back. This is, generally speaking, not the path of a noble warrior, and very few who start upon it are ever able to return. So do me a favor… just let it go, okay?
There’s nothing I hate more than being surrounded by a gaggle of Sasuke fan girls discussing how they just know he’s truly a good guy, but he’s just misunderstood. Yeesh… I get chills just thinking about it.
So, I’m in the middle of putting together book one… which is a LOT of work. A lot of strips need tweaking just to fit the layout and still be legible. In the case of Narutard Theater strips, I have to put together a proper legal blurb citing that the characters are used as parody only and that they are owned by… well… whoever actually owns them. I’d like to get the actual blessing of the folks involved, but I suppose that doesn’t happen too often for parody. I imagine there’s a good chance that Wizards of the Coast might give me their blessing for Dungeons and Dragons Theater as the strips are used to frame commentary on the state of the game and such. In any case, as far as a print bonus, what would you prefer to see:
- Enhanced commentary on the strips
- A few “bonus strips” tossed in
- A few of the early strips redone in color and the current drawing style
- Some combination of the above (be specific)
- Other (be specific)?
Thanks for your thoughts on the matter.
Yes…it’s time for another Narutard Sunday. In all honesty this is more of a Naruto, the Abridged Series joke than it is strictly a Naruto joke, but it amuses me, so we’ll go with it.
For those who are not steeped in the history of log humor, I suppose you could start here.
And here we present our second installment of Naruto vs Sasuke. I give you The Cola Wars. We’re too new to have a thing, but this may end up as a "thing" because I do luvs me some Naruto jokes… This joke is entirely Brittany’s doing. I hadn’t given her a script yet, so she simply supplied the joke. I strongly encourage you to hit the vote button below as, after voting, you will see Brit’s original sketch…which she did with her thumb…on the laptop’s mousepad! The girl has mad skills…weird, but mad. Now why she would sketch it out on the track pad rather than using her perfectly good wacom tablet, I’ll never know…but well done, none the less!
This is likely our last single-panel strip for a while. I do enjoy the one panel comics, of course, but I’m generally more comfortable with a more panels to do things.
As I imagine 90% of all webcomics out there this weekend are doing Iron Man-related bits, I thought I’d go a different way…a little something for the Narutards (we’re taking it back!) out there. This is actually the first script I wrote for Slightly Off-Topic (Mark II – non-university). However, when I gave it to Brittany to sketch, she brought it to a friend and they sketched it out together. They did a fabulous job, but as I didn’t know the girls parents, it seemed a bad idea to use her art as I didn’t know how they’d feel about it or having their daughter’s name posted on some goofball’s website. It took this long for me to get Brittany to resketch it on her own. It came out quite different than the joint effort, but I like it…
…Oh…and go see Iron Man!
