No… not filler… it’s an apology. Hold out a second whilst I clear the cobwebs out of the server…
…ah… that’s better! So, we’re back and (drum roll, please)… we’re buffered! Only a week’s worth, but things have finally settled down enough for me to get back to those things I love the most (heck, I even embroidered this weekend). Hopefully, you all managed to catch a few snickers over at Saggy Man Breasts during the interim.

Greetings! I get to come home today, so I am very excited… though I have to say there are days when moving through security feels just like this.
As many of you know, Brittany is home for the summer, and while she has no intention of returning to Slightly Off-Topic, she did feel bad about the whole uncooperative laptop thing, so she sent me this image (you can tell she drew it because she always ALWAYS puts the News Guys mic on the wrong side) and asked me to affix some verbiage and post it as Wednesday filler. She is, as I’ve said in the past, a sweetie.

Well, the travel gremlins have bit me in the arse again. I don’t know what it is, but this laptop (Portege m400) keeps dropping pen support every 10-15 minutes. This is fine for Saggy because I can crank those out in just about that much time. For Slightly, though, it’s virtually impossible. So… I screwed up again, and I’ll be back tomorrow for Thursday’s update.

First I’d like to apologize for the stagnant state of Slightly Off-Topic over the last month or so. The monkey of life has been slinging his fair share of poo in our direction over the last several weeks (culminating in a family funeral this coming weekend), and it feels like the hard we push to stay afloat, the faster we sink.
So… because I love Slightly Off-Topic and am really excited about the coming storyline, I’ve decided to just pause for a couple days. Rather than continue to make promises about updates that I’m just going to miss, I am skipping Sunday and just working on getting the drawings done right for the storyline launch. I realize that I’m only skipping one day, but releasing that deadline will actually give me time to take my prepared sketches and get some proper cartooning done, so that I can deliver the strips on time (even during the upcoming travel). And I’d rather skip that one day, then continue to put out filler-quality material while I put off the real work.
Again, I apologize for the erratic updates as of late. Clearly I am no Howard Taylor or Ryan Sohmer. Thanks for sticking with me.

Well, here we are finally starting to meet a few of the folks behind the scene at the Slightly Off-Topic Network. I can’t believe the News Guy is going to miss the broadcast though… TV is a bad habit.
So, I’ve been on vacation all week. To give you an idea of the life of the boss, this is the first day I haven’t actually had to go to work! I’ve been spending the mornings dealing with equipment and training issues and afternoons at Laurie’s workplace helping her inventory the book depository.
Note to body builders: If you’re looking for a great upper body workout, I suggest you volunteer at your local high school’s book depository. Spend a few hours there a day or two a week, and I assure you that you will have shoulders and arms to be the envy of all! Happily, we should finish up this afternoon.

Greetings! As many of you know, I am in the process of making some tweaks to Slightly Off-Topic. While I love the random riffs on pop culture (and intend to include them in the strip’s future), it’s beginning to feel like it needs an underlying thread to hold things together. Those of you who read regularly have probably started to notice a whiff of a change, but in the process of creating today’s strip, I found I was laying down bones with not quite enough meat on them. I hate that, and I know Cthulhu would hate that, so I’m going to take the next few days to flesh out the characters/sketches that are still weak, and will return for the normal Sunday comic. I’d rather take the day than do it half-arsed.
In happy news, my air conditioner is working for the first time since early June, so I can actually sit at my drawing station for more than 15 minutes at a time. It’s very nice.

Today is a mental health day. Nothing serious, but real life has been rearing it’s ugly head rather intrusively the last few weeks, and I decided it would be for the best to take a day and catch my metaphorical breath. I apologize for the lack of comic, but as you can see, my personal network is suffering from a bit of lag at the moment, and all you can make up is the rough sketch of what I believe will be panel four in the next comic…

Greetings! You’ll all be happy to know that I am flying home tomorrow and will be able to stop making comics on the teeny, tiny screen and bring you some proper entertainment again.
I’m serious, though. Watch out for Words with Friends. I’m addicted to the thing and currently have games going with my wife and a friend back home. I can’t stop!

For those who haven’t figured out the numbering code, “TC” stands for “Terrible Comic” which is the moniker I use to identify those entries that I don’t consider regular strips because I failed to create a proper comic due to equipment failure, stupidity or, as in this case, mind-sucking illness. I’ve been thoroughly out of things since Sunday, but have started to turn the corner (I even replied to all the comments on the site last night) and will begin inking a proper comic for Sunday tonight. On the plus side, even sick, I managed to add two more strips to the script buffer.
As you can see, we’ve added a new character to Slightly Off-Topic. His name is Sicky, the Biohazardous Dinosaur. Hopefully, we won’t see him too often.

Okay. So, I forgot to upload the comic, and I’m not going to make it back home, so it seems a good time to remind you that Penguicon is coming up, and you should register now if you haven’t already!! The con is shaping up nicely with lots of guests and activities. As I’ve always said, if you can’t find something fun to do at Penguicon, you must already be dead!
