>Ba dum dum ching< Sometimes the world just needs to hear a dumb joke... The newspaper-style strip format continues to elude me. I just can't seem to work that "small". My imagery and text just doesn't seem to fit well in that format. If anyone has any pointers, I'd appreciate hearing them. I know that when I want to do something in strip format, I have to change the way I think about the delivery, but I just can't seem to settle on something that works. It's a learned skill, I guess...

(Love this one!)
As far as I can tell, most strip-style comics are minimal when it comes to background; it’s hard to fit more than a few characters some props in a small panel.
For text, I think handlettering fits better. As a mostly digital letterer I tend to have problems with fitting text in, so writing for a strip is a little like Twittering.
In summary: writing for a strip is all about conveying the bare minimum (unless you’re at the level of Watterson or Ishida)
Indeed. In my head the house should have been smaller in panels 1 and 2. The door in the break-in probably should have been smaller as well.
Text is problematic as I have terrible penmanship, though I could have probably went down a point in the font.
As per the strip itself… there are jokes that are bad and there are endearingly bad jokes. I strive for the latter!
