I think it goes without saying, that if Vibram ever did make these shoes, I would buy them instantly!  Functional footwear for the cosplay enthusiast!  How could you lose?!?

In any case, Brittany is back home (huzzah!), and we went to see the Hobbit friday morning.  While I normally avoid 3D films like the plague they are, I did give in and see it in IMAX 3D as they were showing the first nine minutes of the new Star Trek movie (Mickey!!!), and it appears that I can be bought!  Actually, it proved very useful as the preview has gotten me very excited to see the new film and conclusively demonstrated that seeing the film in 3D would be a dreadful, dreadful mistake… unless you are particularly fond of blurry foreground options, then go for it… the film is chuck full of them.

But anyways… back to the Hobbit… I was careful to avoid any actual Hobbit news over the last year, so going in, I only really knew that they had snagged Arthur Dent as Bilbo, they were using a new 3D technique that was hard on the eyes, and that they somehow managed to break the shortest book in the series into three movies…  So when I saw some of the actors that were cast in the film, I was very surprised and incredibly pleased.  They could *not* have cast a better brown wizard!!!

Now, I know some IMAX showings were in standard 3D and some were in HFR 3D.  I didn’t ask, so I can’t say much about it other than to say that the images were nice and clear, incredibly smooth… and you still can’t tilt your bloody head while watching a freaking 3D movie which, it seems, I am incredibly prone to do.  Also, everything was much brighter than your standard 3D, but (with the exception of the treasure room) I did not feel like I was watching a video game (which is a complaint I’ve heard repeated).

Unlike the LOTR films, this particular film didn’t cut out any of the non-directly-related-to-the-main-plotline stories which I loved.  It did feel like some of side stories were woefully under-developed, but what are you going to do.  They were there to provide an key point of information, and then they were gone.

All in all, I loved it… and will probably see it again soon… in 2D.  Laurie still refuses to see it, but I love her anyway…
