Let’s ignore the weasely way (opposite marriage) she stated her opinion. Let’s ignore the fact that this is America, and she’s free to believe whatever the heck she wants. What I don’t understand is how California can be so upset with her when the entire state got together and voted to ban gay marriage. Pot? Kettle? Black.
Stand up for what you believe in people? If you think it’s wrong that someone who’s against gay marriage should be representing California, then how can it not be wrong to ban gay marriage? Or is it that it’s okay to be against it as long as you don’t state that fact publicly.
I’m just asking…

I am also disappointed in Miss CA, as well as the rest of the state. I voted against Prop 8. Rather discouraging that we still have so many ‘phobes hanging around. Another data point for “just because it walks on two legs does not mean it is a rational human being”.
Fair enough and welcome. Personally, I could care less what Miss California believes (though as I said in a previous strip, she should at least *say* it rather than make up terms). She’s only one person and can believe whatever she wants, but the righteous indignation that has erupted from the state that voted gay marriage down. Well… that fascinates me!
All this does is highlight the issue, though, so maybe it will be good in the long run? I can’t imagine it being voted down again (Well, I can, but I would hope not… but I moved out of California, so what do I know, eh?).
Did I simply miss something? I read that line as
We live in a land that you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite[-sex] marriage and, you know what, in my country and my family I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman.
And that she just disagrees with same-sex marriage. Could just be me though; it certainly wouldn’t be the first time…
Well, my thoughts on the term “opposite marriage” are in a different strip, but in this case, it was an interesting contrast between the reaction of Californians to her comment (how could she say that) and the results from the vote on Prop 8. Some mixed messages…
