I’m pretty sure that this was never tried with Ixtoc… It certainly couldn’t be any worse that anything else they’ve tried, right?!?
I went to the World Steam Expo this weekend. Awesome con! I not only got to chat with Phil Foglio, one of my all time cartooning heroes, but I was also introduced to Tartanic. For those who enjoy a good pipe and drum band, these guys are worth your time to check out!

Bahaha. You’re just awful!! X D
That’s my job!
You were right! That would make for one hellofa test of the fan theory…
Only if you actually ate any of it…
It WAS cool to meet Phil and Kaja and their kids. Morgen (our 8 year old) and Alex (their 6 year old) had a great time hanging out together.
Turns out Kaja and I might know each other, but neither of us could remember from where….. (and that’s going to bug me until next Penguicon!)
Bumped in to each other at another con or is she from the area?
One thing that’s been done for surface wells to great affect for a hundred years or so, is to use a concussive blast (dynamite) to seal the well. Why hasn’t it been tried here? We have plenty of explosives that work well underwater….
…oh, wait; that would STOP the flow of oil from that well. BP certainly doesn’t want THAT to happen!
I believe there are pressure issues with dynamite at that depth. The Russians have used nukes in the past, but I’m sure we have something with sufficient bang without splitting atoms… but yeah… they keep the lease as long as oil is flowing…
I never did like too much oil though in my dressing.
Indeed… not the heavy stuff, anyway…
I’ve actually developed an odd fondness for soy on my salads (low sodium but still…)
