So, yeah… I may be the only one who immediately thinks of Q*bert when viewing that commercial, but to be fair, I’ve spent a LOT of time playing Q*bert. Also, that commercial really doesn’t have much to say… I mean Windows Mobile 7 is supposed to be the one to crush the iPhone, and the big feature they want to push is that it has a keyboard? I mean the Kin had a keyboard and a boxy looking OS, and we all know how well that did…

The only way I could manage even the tiniest bit of interest in the windows phone would be if I can trash the windows crap and install firefox and thunderbird, among other things, on it.
I haven’t used a windows phone since my Treo which was, to be fair, a fine phone and pda… lousy at anything net-related though. At risk of seeming a fanboy, the iphone just does everything so well, that unless Windows is able to demonstrate some compelling feature, I don’t even feel the need to dabble with the current (butt-ugly) crop of phones… I do keep tabs on Android though as open is better, but they don’t currently seem as fluid to me…
I’d lean more towards an Android myself, mainly because you couldn’t pay me enough to use anything with an apple logo on it.
Things like the ipad just make me laugh since HP made a better one about five or six years ago.
Now, sadly, they do not. I’ve played with the ipad, and it’s actually nice to use in the field, but I keep hoping to see a comparable linux or android tablet that’s worth a darn…
Went with a treo 800 about 2 years ago because it was the only way to get my phone and my computer to sync without severe headaches, cursing, significant risk of harm to my computer and/or phone. Happy to have my calendar, email, files, notes, etc all sync without fuss AND be able to open and edit office docs. Added bonus, I can backup my phone without paying for that (cough) service.
I’m due for a new phone but Sprint is holding back their Win7 mobile phones while they push the froyos. So alas, I must wait a bit yet.
In the mean time, enjoy your ifart app…
Who on earth charges to backup phones these days?
Followed by what platform can’t sync properly these days? (Though to be fair I use Google for my calendars)
Lots of phones can’t be connected to your computer let alone backed up properly. Some will backup contacts only. LG phones are particularly irksome in this regard. Also, backing up isn’t the same as syncing. And do try to sync your iphone with outlook sometime. Should be amusing…(oh, without buying an app or paying for a service to do it). Check into the backup and syncing issues. It astounds me just how difficult it is on virtually every phone not running win mobile (for pc users of course, if you are an ifruit to ifruit user, good for you).
Ah… I guess we are at an impasse as I would NEVER use Outhouse… er… I mean Outlook… so I don’t care so much that I can’t sync with it… As per backing up, it’s a push button operation. It’s a piece of piss to fully back up and restore to a completely different handset. As per the syncing… just choose the apps and go. Probably not outlook though… and I’m pretty sure that Win Mobile feels the same way about Mac Mail… not that I use that either…
However, if that is what you *need*, I can see the appeal of a crackberry or winmobile. I’ve not used the apple exchange stuff, so I can’t comment on how good it is… (though it’s been around for several os revisions now…)
It does, however, sync just hunky dunky with Groupwise these days which is what we use at the U.
Outlook and exchange are dictated around these parts. Not that I like Outlook all that much but it does have its advantages. Seamless calendar, contacts, mail, and notes being the biggies. I would probably like a Froyo phone better but for my needs win mo is tops. Ifruit is probably ok but not if I have to take it up the A$$, er, ATT…
I’ve had nextel, verizon and at&t since coming to Ann Arbor. ATT has proven the most reliable (and affordable), but that’s just one city…
Nextel is now Sprint but is still a separate network that no one uses. ATT drops calls around here even if you DON’T have a new iphone and DON’T put your finger on the antenna gap. Verizon and ATT can’t hold a candle to Sprint in terms of affordability. 4 lines on family share plan with unlimited text and data costs me about the same as just voice on V and A.
Oh, and I think the character that reminds you of Qbert does look a bit like Qbert, but he also reminds me of the Lamasil fungus guy…
Eww…
Interestingly, I switched to Verizon because it was cheaper, and when I switched to AT&T, I was surprised to see that I was getting four lines cheaper than the 3 I was paying for at Verizon…
I haven’t had dropped calls issues, but I don’t hang out in your area often… The AT&T network was the only one where I could get a signal in all three of my labs (soon to be 4!). That varies from region to region… heck there are points along 94 where I can only get Edge service, so it is what it is, but no complaints…
