I don’t know what you guys do in your day to day lives, but it is really very infrequent that I get to draw on anyone’s scalp, and I have now drawn twice… last year was a barely recognizable ‘classic News Guy’, this year we have a reasonable Saggy.
I’ll have to buy some watermelon’s and practice so that next year we can get the News Guy and Jane!
Enough travel delays! Yes, I’ve once again grabbed a marker and tried to figure out how people do it in the analog world. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again… real life needs a zoom tool!… and an undo! How do people who work with ink manage it?!? Eve when I’m doing well, my last line will invariably be on awful, jaggedy mess that just ruins everything!
I’m told practice makes perfect, of course, but at the moment, Laurie is using my drawing table for a puzzle. I’ll need to encourage her to finish, I guess. Until then, I’ll just stick with the wacom.
Oh… and in all fairness to the drag show, Jer does look awesome in a dress, but I’ll stick with the coding and comicking panels for the time being…

Hey, Penguicon is next weekend? How many of you will be attending? A schedule of events is now posted on the Penguicon site.

It’s been a while since we’ve talked Penguicon around these parts. If you look at the poster above, I think you’ll agree that we have quite a fine webcomics group lined up so far this year! (Whoever I forgot to add the the poster, I apologize as I left my list at the office). We had to pass our Guest of Honor spots on to another programming track this year (can’t have it every year, after all), but that spot’s been filled by MC Frontalot which should prove entertaining.
Of course, all of our guests are nifty (and appreciated), but our official Nifty Guests are Gordan McAlpin from Multiplex and Kez from What It Takes. We’re getting several workshops/demos lined up as well as the usual panels. Hopefully, it will be a lot of fun for everyone. So, if you haven’t already, pop over to the Penguicon site and get your registration completed ASAP!
Greetings from Penguicon. Rather than my usual “I’ll be back Tuesday as I’m having too much fun at the con” post, I thought I’d say it in comic form. As this is Penguicon, it only seems appropriate to incorporate the world’s first open-source comic character, Jenny Everywhere!
“The character of Jenny Everywhere is available for use by anyone, with only one condition. This paragraph must be included in any publication involving Jenny Everywhere, in order that others may use this property as they wish. All rights reversed.”
I’ll write up a full con report later, so let’s just say that fun is being had by all, sleep is in dwindling supply, and I’ll be sad to see it end this afternoon.
Okay. So, I forgot to upload the comic, and I’m not going to make it back home, so it seems a good time to remind you that Penguicon is coming up, and you should register now if you haven’t already!! The con is shaping up nicely with lots of guests and activities. As I’ve always said, if you can’t find something fun to do at Penguicon, you must already be dead!
We had a *big* meeting today, and our contract with the hotel prohibits static (overnight) exhibits in the hallway and limits commerce to the dealers area and rooms, etc. Now, putting up an Artist’s Alley that had to be emptied on a nightly basis and disallowed sales would be a bit of a drag, so we’ve expanded the dealers area to include an Artist Alley.
The deal is such:
We are now in the Dealer’s Hall. We have our own section (inside the main entrance, so almost all traffic through the hall will pass through the alley). You may sell, do sketches, commissions, whatever. Spots are per half-table.
Cost is $40 per half-table, but this includes your registration fee, so for those keeping track, it’s still $5 plus the cost of registration. If you’re thinking of coming and getting a table, let me know. There will be no guesswork involved, so if you want a spot, tell me, and I’ll let you know how to pay and reserve your spot. Before the con, I’ll send out a seating chart so everyone knows where they’re going to be.
Because this is inside the Dealer’s Room proper, you won’t have to pack up your table at night as the room is secured. However, if you want to attend other con functions or speak on panels, you should think about who could watch your area while you’re out of the room.

For unto you is given this day in the city of Troy a Penguicon Guest of Honor, which is Howard Tayler. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the GoH wrapped in Hawain Shirts, speaking at Penguicon. And suddenly there was with the convention a multitude of fans chatting up Howard, and saying, Good God, I’m glad I came to Penguicon, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
so… yeah…
I would like to officially announce that Howard Taylor has accepted the invitation to be our Webcomics Guest of Honor at Penguicon this coming April. Now, if you’ve never seen Howard speak in person, you are in for a treat! The man is engaging, creative, friendly and genuinely fun to be around. In fact, the first time I heard him speak, he was still working for Novell and was speaking about their decision to dive into the Linux market. I sat enthralled and entertained at what was essentially a marketing talk, and that, my friends, takes some doing!
Penguicon 2010 will be held April 30 – May 2 at the Troy Marriott in Troy, Michigan (but I’m guessing you knew that last bit). Full details are at the Penguicon website, but (discounted) pre-registration has begun!
That would be Howard Taylor of Schlock Mercenary fame, of course….
That would be this Ardra Comic.
Clearly, I have no financial or professional relationship with those guys… just a fan… and I think the t-shirt is pretty cool!
Okay, back to Penguicon. I would seriously like your input, so let me know who you’d like to see (keep in mind that the only weapons at my disposal are 3 nifty guest "free passes" and a shot at a one expenses paid Guest of Honor slot). Think about what panels would be interesting to you as a reader or a creator and let me know. Together, we’ll make this the greatest Penguicon EVER (wow, that’s actually an incredibly high bar, but I’ll do my best). Thanks.

So, no. Our crack commando team did not, in fact, manage to get Wil Wheaton to show up at Penguicon. Go figure. Full con report later. I’m garnering a bunch of interest in Slightly Off-Topic by doing very little, but some of the folks I got to come in for the con are not having as much luck which is a huge disappointment for me. I had hoped to make this great for them, but I don’t think I have.
Regardless, the net connection here is tenuous at best, so I’ll sign off. But before I go, are you guys enjoying Luke’s guest artist month?
