Oh Windows! You’re up to your old tricks again, I see. I knew that there had to be some Vista annoyance hiding in Seven somewhere. Boy did I find it. I made the mistake of trying to plug the labs laptop into the network. What was I thinking?!? As soon as I plugged it in, Windows happily reported that I had connected to an unknown network and severed all ties to the internet.
Now, to Microsoft’s credit, they have included many, many troubleshooting routines. However, no amount or combination of clicking, poking, prodding, accepting or changing will reliably coax the machine in to connecting to the internet. The only procedure that seems to work is reboot and reboot again until it decides to let you connect. I’ve found that, not-unexpectedly, the magic number of reboots required is seven. Go figure.

I love this. Though I’d heard 7 was much better than Vista…
Oh… in general it is. Faster, no weird lockups, but occasionally things like this pop up just to remind you who you’re dealing with…
