Doesn’t do you any good to have the comics done in advance when your servers go down, and you can’t upload them. Apparently Site 5 was suffering an issue in one of their data centers and that took out my sites for most of the night. I stayed up until 2am hoping they’d come back up, but then fatigue took me. Clearly, I’ll just have to upload Thursday’s today as well, and let it auto-magically post.
In any case, it’s back up now and all is well with the world.
Now, I’ve been trying to draw Jane and The News Guy with some consistency using my more cartoony style. Thoughts? I was also in the book store last night and noticed that something was rereleased which directly affects what I can do in this storyline… but more on that later…
Aside from the eyes being a bit large for my taste (oh and Jane’s boobs being very nondescript and inconsistent…and not large for my taste…), I like the cartoony style
Really? I thought the boob work was pretty consistent, though I changed from shadows to lines in panel four to show more light.
It’s consistent enough. Though, I don’t like how News Guy’s eyes are so close together…though Garfield and Foxtrot feature similar overlapping eyes and look fine to me…hmmm.
Also, it’s minor, and it was intentional, but the way the reflection is depicted on the first two panels is a little distracting. Too much copy-paste, to put it bluntly. It does look nice and reflection-y though…
And, to actually comment on the comic: uh-oh!
I’m actually not sure if it is the size of the eyes or the proportions (specifically compared to size of nose and ears, and maybe entire head). Went with size cuz that is the primary namable aspect for that feature. I see your point about Garfield and Foxtrot. Maybe it is more the proportions.
The reflection looks more like a double image than a reflection- at least for some of the images. I actually think News Guy’s reflection in panel two is spot on while Jane’s is more doulbe image. The effect works pretty well though, as you mentioned, reflectiony.
Good eyes, sir. Yes, panel 2 and 3 are the only ones with actual mirror images. This was a mistake on my part which I only noticed as I was about to post, so gambling that no one would pay attention to details (this is why I don’t spend my time in casinos), I just popped in and fixed the News Guy in panel 2. 3 was correct from the get go.
Yeah… the reflections were a clusterfark as noted below. With the eye thing, is it just because they are so close (I’ve always drawn big eyes, after all), or is it because his appear overlapped and Jane’s do not?
I really can’t explain the eye thing at all. Maybe it’s the placement of the nose (as in the nose should be lower)? Or maybe the eyes are too high up on NG’s head? I have no clue…the overlapping/closeness itself isn’t really the problem I think…
Actually, looking at it again it doesn’t seem as awkward as I had originally thought. Um…Maybe it just takes getting used to?
I think I have more of a problem with Jane’s eyes. The farther apart the large eyes are give it a kind of insecty look, especially with the nose size/placement. Overlapping seems to lend itself to more cartoony feel. At least that is what my gut is telling me. I can’t really pin it on more specific observations.
