So when we heard that they were retiring Robbie’s jersey on Saturday, Laurie and I were a bit perplexed as to why exactly this was being done.  I mean, Robbie is a great player, and he went through a lot (two ACL tears for those who don’t follow BBall) and fought to play for that team.  I’d go as far as to say he’s downright inspirational…

…but he’s young… and playing ball in Spain, fer Christ’s sake!!!  Aren’t you supposed to wait several years until he’s a global star and philanthropist before retiring a jersey?!?  I mean there are only so many good numbers, and if you keep retiring numbers at the drop of a hat, we’re going to see an incoming freshman with the number six to the power of five on his jersey, and that’s just too hard to say in a play-by-play!

After some thought, I assume they retired it because no new player would be willing to wear it for fear of the Curse of the Robbino… these young kids… you aren’t a real player until you’ve popped a ligament or two…
