They said gas would reach $4 a gallon by the end of the summer. I’ve been paying over $4 a gallon for weeks and it’s still spring!

Oil is currently sitting at $139 per barrel. About a year ago, they were worrying about the price of a barrel staying as high as $60 a barrel.

I have one, simple question.

Why aren’t the manufacturers flooding the market with hybrid vehicles?!?

People need more fuel efficient cars, and we need to stop using so much oil. This seems like a no brainer, but the manufacturers are just trickling these hybrids onto the market as if they are some precious commodity. The Prius has been on the market since *2001*, and there is still a fifteen week waiting period because they only make a few. They seem to make plenty of Corollas and what not, so what is the problem? Ford tells me if I want an Escape, I have to pay for it now as any that arrive will be pre-sold. Saturn has finally said that they will in fact get two Vue hybrids this year, but that they are all ready spoken for. Two…for the entire year. What is the problem here?

They are, of course, a bit more expensive than non-hybrid vehicles, but costs go down with production volume. So if they would actually make the things available, people could actually afford them. Come on manufacturers. Let’s start cranking out those hybrids. There’s no need to prop up the oil and gas industry. They’re doing just fine. Let’s get those cars into the hands of the people.
